You do not own the sheep but you will be sponsoring it/them for a year.

Can I sponsor a sheep for longer than a year?

Yes but this will involve having to renew your sponsorship when it expires at the end of the year.

What if the sheep I sponsor dies?

In these tragic circumstances we would allocate you another sheep and continue your sponsorship year. Unfortunately it is a fact of life that farm animals can pass away the same as humans can but your sponsorship will certainly ensure that the sheep are kept under a close observation.
